You'll use your favorite Web browser application, such as Netscape Navigator (3.0 or higher) or Microsoft Internet Explorer (3.0 or higher), to log on to the Post-A-Note Message Boards. Click here http://longridgewritersgroup.com/rx/prelog.shtml and choose Post-A-Note, then set up your account. Bookmark this link.
Creating a New User Account
Click on the Create a new user link. You'll arrive at the new account creation page. Enter a username and password in the fields provided. You'll enter the password again to verify it. You must supply information in all three fields. Record the username and password you choose in a safe place. NOTE: Usernames are NOT case sensitive, so it doesn't matter if you capitalize or not. Passwords ARE case sensitive, and capitals/lower case DO matter.
Enter any optional information you wish to provide to other users of the system. NOTE: Optional information is available to other Post-A-Note users. You can provide all, some, or none of the Option information such as e-mail address, home page URL [complete URL including http://], a description of you, or phone number [supplying phone number not recommended]. You must provide an e-mail address to send personal messages to others by e-mail. If you later wish to modify your personal information, you always have that option by clicking on the User Account icon at the top of your messages screen (a lower case "i" in a circle).
Click Create New User. If you receive an error message, read it; the system will prompt you for any needed corrections. Make sure you're following the guidelines for username (Note: User names may only contain letters, digits, dashes, underscores, periods, @ signs, spaces, single quotes, and slashes), and that you've provided the required information. That's it! You're logged on to the Post-A-Note Message Boards automatically with your new account.

Press the Tab key to move to the Password box and enter your password.

Logging Out of Message Boards
There's no need to formally log out of Message Boards. Either choose another URL, or click on the "X" in the upper right hand corner. NOTE: If you are inactive on Message Boards for more than 15 minutes, your login automatically expires. You will need to log back in to continue.
Using the Message Boards toolbar
You navigate through the Post-A-Note Message Boards using the toolbar at the top of the screen. To understand each toolbar button's function, move your mouse over the button--a tooltip is displayed under the button. The tooltip describes either the button's function or the page that opens when you click the button.
On the far left, you'll see a button with a triangle in a circle. This is the "display lower toolbar" button. NOTE: the contents of the lower toolbar vary, depending on which page you are viewing.
Back button: goes back to previous page viewed on the message boards.
Topics button: displays the main Topics page.
Refresh page button: refreshes the page.
Permission Groups button: this is an administrative function, and is disabled.
Options button: this button takes you to an options page, where you can set how topics and messages are displayed, and what e-mail options you want. These settings are unique to you and can be changed as you desire. You have options like showing all the topics, showing top-level topics only (without subtopics), how messages are displayed (read, unread, or both), etc.
User Account Information button: Takes you to the User Account Information page. From this page, you can change your password or modify details about your account, such as e-mail address and personal information and description. When you make changes to this page, click Enter Changes at the bottom to put them into effect.
Help pages: This opens a separate browser window for User Help topics and instructions. Not all Help instructions apply to this particular message board, however. These instructions are tailored for Post-A-Note.
Lower Toolbar
You can display a second toolbar that gives you more navigational options and functions useful for the specific page on which you are currently browsing. To display the lower toolbar, click the Display Lower Toolbar button on the far left. Depending on the page you're on, the lower toolbar will change, giving options specific to that page. Let your mouse pointer hover over the buttons, and a description of each function will be displayed.
Topic Basics
For each message, you may see:
A subject line provided by the author, the date and time of posting, and the username of the author. If the author provided an e-mail address upon registering, you can click on the author's name in the message itself to e-mail a private reply directly to him or her.
Show Messages: You have the option of viewing all messages in the topic, only those messages you haven't read, or viewing messages by thread. To display only unread messages, click the Options button and choose that option. In the Show Messages field, choose Show Unread Messages Only. Click the Submit Changes button. To display both read and unread messages, click the Options button. In the Show Messages field, choose Show All Messages. Click the Submit Changes button. To show all the messages with threads, click the Options button In the Show Messages field, choose Show Message Threads. Click the Submit Changes button.
New Topic Notification: This is NOT an e-mail notification. There is simply a flag that shows on the line with the topic that says "New" for each of the topics that the viewer has not seen since the last time they logged on.
IGNORE the options listed Outgoing Mail Format, Allow Email Distributions from Message Board, and Receive Respondents Mailouts from Message Board
